Individual Player Development Program

As our organization continues to grow, the ultimate goal for the Miller family with Utmost is to eventually build our own training and tournament facility in Owasso. To accomplish that goal, it is necessary for us to begin to build a base of athletes who are working with us outside of team-oriented practices on developing their individual skill sets and abilities.

As we continue to grow that base, We will be offering small group training sessions out of a couple of different facilities in Owasso throughout the summer. We are still working on specific days at specific locations but we will have that information shortly.

While individual training is not a requirement to participate with UTMOST club teams, we do believe it is necessary for all of our athletes to reach their full potential. As players reach the JH and HS level, we must learn to rely less on athletic ability and focus in on our fundamental skills and smarts about the game.

Our goal in player development is to prepare each athlete for the challenge of High School basketball and, hopefully, even collegiate competition if that is a goal they have.

The core principles of our individual development approach are what we collectively call

“the UTMOST way”

Prepare with a Purpose

We believe every drill in every session should be done with a designed purpose which our players understand and agree with. We work with our players to help them understand WHY we are preparing, HOW we are going to be intentionally improving and WHAT this hard work can do to strengthen and improve their game. Our job as coaches is to not only train a player in the skills of the game, but also to provide the details of how those skills impact the game as effectively as possible.

Play with a Passion

We are not defined only by a scoreboard, but by how we work in winning, losing and training. We believe in cultivating and growing each players unique love for the game to build dedication and spirit within our athletes. We believe teaching players to overcome emotional overload and chaos is as every bit as important as teaching a proper jump shot. Learning to control and utilize our passion makes us unshakeable.

Perform as One

We are not defined by our individual best, but by our collective power to do more than we imagined. At OK Utmost, we work to develop an understanding of each players goals and dreams. It is our desire to meet players where they are, show them how to get where they want to go, and join them on the journey to get there. Our success is built on solid fundamentals which we strive to build on the basis of genuine relationships with athletes.

The Process

For all players participating in our IPD program, we will use small group (10-15 players) training sessions. We are willing to work in semi-private (4 or less) or private sessions, however we do charge a higher monthly rate for those options. These sessions will focus on age and skill specific workouts designed to create a wider fundamental base for all athletes in our program to build on. As player’s skill levels improve, we will continually assess the level of training needed to see continued growth for that specific athlete. Those assessments may include shot charting, ball-handling speed and ability assessments, speed and agility assessments and video analysis of forms and techniques.

In addition to our weekly or bi-weekly sessions, we will be providing continual weekly workouts to all players present at IPD sessions which will allow for building the skills worked on in our sessions into habits to further perfect and develop in follow-up sessions. For maximum improvement, players should plan to follow these routines 3 to 5 times per week outside of training sessions.

We are happy to provide progress reports to interested parents as their players progress through our program and will be more than happy to work on certain areas of a specific player’s game if you will communicate those areas of concern to us. Ultimately, we believe in whole player development. For us, that means building players who are capable and confident in their personal abilities, awareness and aptitude in all areas of the game.

A winner is someone who recognizes their God-given talents,

works their tail off to develop them into skills

and uses these skills to accomplish their goals.
